Sustainable materials in clothing production

There are many different materials that can be used in clothing production. However, the different materials also have a different impact on the environment. Below are four examples of green materials.

1. Organic cotton

One of the most commonly used materials for clothing production. However, there is a difference between organic and non-organic. Fair fashion is an area in which the organic product is often used instead of conventional cotton. This is an advantage as no genetically modified plants are used here. Furthermore, chemically produced fertilizers and pesticides are avoided. This is in turn good for the soil.

2. Linen

Also known as flax, as the fabric is obtained from the so-called flax plant. The advantage over cotton is the low resource requirement. Linen requires around a quarter of the amount of water needed to produce cotton. It is the same as with cotton, it’s better to use the organic version of the natural fiber.

3. Organic Wool

Wool is obtained from the fur of sheep or other animals such as goats and is therefore an animal fiber. It is particularly important to pay attention to the organic label. This indicates that the animals have been kept in a species-appropriate manner.
